An idyllic getaway, open again and business as usual!
Take a drive down the Old Abergavenny Road and you will discover, cwtched down in the panoramic valley of Mynydd Garnclochdy (Clocktower Mountain), The Horseshoe Inn. Closed for two years, it is now open again to the public, serving a full vibrant a la carte menu as well as traditional pub food such as homemade faggots and mash or their legendary pies. All home made from ingredients as local as possible. There’s also a great and extensive choice of wines by the bottle or glass.
New owners Simon and Steve, moved in in November 2014 after 10 years as tenants at the Old Mill Hotel in Salisbury, a 15th century watermill. The first priority was comfort. Getting the heating working properly and the fireplace blazing. Simon said “We wanted it cosy inside and out, so we invested in armchairs and sofas, comfy rattan furniture for the decked area facing the mountain, and lots of oil candles. In our “cwtch corners”, people love to relax, chat and take in the view or just bask in the warmth of the fire.”
Function suite is ready steady go!
Upstairs at The Shoe as its affectionately known locally, there is a large function suite (disused since 2011 and up until recently, in a considerable state of disrepair. “The heating up there wasn’t working and the floor was mostly missing, the paint was flaked and poor quality. I’ve replaced all that and got the heating working.” Steve said. “We’ve recently been able to use the function room to host, quizzes, bands, open mic nights and some meetings- It’s a great space and bands love to play up there.” At one end is a lounge/TV area which can be used separately or as part of the function suite. Steve has built a spectacular bar for this space with a beautiful black granite top. We’re hoping to have the whole place fully functioning by November in time for our festival. Its available for private parties and dinners too. Just call to discuss.
