There really is nothing quite like turning a hobby and passion into a business venture. Surely this is a dream come true? well, it certain is for Mick and Sheryl of Vanity Weddings.
Having been lovers of vintage VW campervans, they discovered a close friend Sean was selling his. Originally, Sean, had bought the VW from a man in Nottingham after being bitten by the VW fever at the popular Santa Pod Festival, Bug Jam2013. Although he owned a black Bug in his early years, it wasn’t until August 2014 that he found her, and it was love at first sight. After many grueling months of restoration, it seemed the perfect time to grab the opportunity with both hands, especially as they both knew that it had come from someone who had taken a great deal of time, effort, blood sweat and tears. Ensuring it was back to perfect, safe and most of all, back to its original classic state.
Affectionately known as ‘Splitties’, these VW campers inspire particular affection among enthusiasts. Nyssie, now fondly named, is a beautiful 1967 American VW T2 Split Screen. Originally from the Arizona desert, Nyssie is complete with original number plate. However, it was moved to New York City, then imported to the UK. In keeping with her heritage, it was registered with a UK registration plate NYC. The iconic split screen designs have a timeless appeal that, for many owners, sums up everything that’s great about a VW Campervan in one model. These early generation VW Campers were devised during the 1950s and 1960s.
On returning home, it wasn’t long before their neighbours asked to them to do them a favour as they also loved the bus, if they could transport the Bride to their wedding venue. In April this year, Mick proudly chauffeured the bride to Bedwellty House, where the Bride and Groom and many of the guests admired the bus, taking selfies and at one point almost stealing the show. It was at this point the couple realised not only did they have something very special, but they could share their love with others, by hiring it out for weddings, proms and other special occasions.
‘Knowing we have something special which is our passion and enjoyment, that we would like to share with others and to be part of their special day. Also in years to come the pictures will be reflected back on, knowing that we have added something special to someone’s cherished memories’.
Offering a personalised vehicle hire and chauffeur driven service, that is second to none. Mick and Sheryl ensure that each and every individual Bride and Grooms needs are met.
Since purchasing ‘Nyssie’, Mick and Sheryl also have a beautiful VW Bug called ‘Elmo’, of similar colours, and for more modern feeling they have a white convertible C Class Mercedes called ‘Marty’. Soon to be joining them in Jan 2018 is another classic VW campervan, so you’ll have to keep a look out on their Facebook and Website to see what the new campervan will look like. There is no doubt in my mind she will be just as stunning as the others.
