The dark nights of winter will become a little darker this January in Abergavenny Borough Theatre. Amateur dramatics group ‘Abergavenny Theatre Group’ are currently in rehearsal for their own original adaption of Bram Stocker’s classic horror novel ‘Dracula’.

Written by ‘ATG’ member and published author Fiona Angwin, this chilling tale is set to delight and fright audiences over a three night run in the Borough Theatre on the 28th, 29th and 30th of January.

Fiona is a huge fan on the novel, and has always wanted to write her own adaptation of the story, as she has found other theatrical adaptations of Stoker’s tale have often missed what she feels is the true message of this gothic legend.

So Fiona is bringing back classic characters, such as the lovable Texan hero Quincey, and adding a few minor characters of her own, such as Edda, Van Helsing’s adoring assistant. By bringing in characters that other adaptations seem to cut out, Fiona is hoping to please admiring fans of this book, and give back the story to Stoker, who over the years has had his story somewhat twisted into the gothic, sexualised story we have come to accept. This version explores the incorruptible nature of friendship as the characters battle against the vampire, Count Dracula, to try to save those dearest to them.

Abergavenny Theatre Group has a rich and diverse history. 2016 will see them celebrate their 50th year. Over the last half century they have put on some amazing productions, ranging from Shakespeare’s ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ to Terry Pratchett’s ‘Guards Guards’ and its sequel ‘Men At Arms’

So with growing numbers, and a golden anniversary to celebrate, 2016 is looking like its shaping up to be a wonderful year for ATG.

We hope you can join them in their celebrations, starting with the deliciously dark, gothic tale of an aristocratic vampire, stalking the coasts of Whitby and the streets of London. You can book tickets now by ringing the Borough Theatre Box Office on 01873 850805.
